Kayla Otero-Dettman-Model Teacher-Truman Elementary (2019-20)

Following contributions discussed; -Science lesson video https://flipgrid.com/s/b3c7f6264566 -PLTW Launch Lead Teacher led multiple Professional development sessions to present material, hands on activities, grade, give feedback, and follow the required PLTW training rubric to certify dozens of DCSD classroom teachers to become PLTW Launch Classroom teachers to they could access, and implement PLTW curriculum in their classrooms. Two were 2 full days of training, one was squeezed into one day of training at the October inservice. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1d3JxyiX5TQ4tngipmpoqtVRx7_WsZFz7eOIecktl044/edit?usp=sharing -Collaborated with district and fellow educators to plan and develop 5th grade science curriculum. (Available in SBAR) Video that is connected is a science lesson that I did during the COVID learning. It is water filter challenge using only items from around your house. It followed lessons that integrated science Q4 curriculum about human impact on water and natural resources, and also utilized a reading passage “One Well” from Wonders so students had multiple resources. Videos from Mystery science that gave further info on the subject were also provided/assigned. The target audience was the 5th graders of Truman elementary. I also set this project up to get parents and family members involved to increase engagement. I was contacted by multiple parents and students that expressed their enjoyment of the activity. Overall great response and engagement. I also want to note that I held multiple district training sessions over the summer and at the beginning of the year to certify teachers to become PLTW Launch classroom teachers. ~Kayla
