For my TLCS submission, I am sharing my lesson plans for The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan. This text is designated for 4th quarter of 8th grade Language Arts. My lesson plans were formed with guidance from the Unbound Ed curriculum. This unit was designed for intermediate language level ELL students in 9th grade (based on the 8th grade ELA 4th quarter curriculum). The content has been scaffolded and modified to support not only language needs, but also the development of foundational skills needed to be successful in high school language arts classes. Language strategies include sentence stems, purposeful questioning to guide response, vocabulary building through connections, and meaningful connections between student and content.~Rachel
